Austin, Texas-based OsteoCentric Technologies is bringing its subsidiary OsteoCentric Spine, LLC, into the pedicle screw fixation space via a private label agreement with West Chester, Pennsylvania-based Altus Spine.

Under the agreement, OsteoCentric will be able to join its Mechanical Integration technology platform, UnifiMI™, with Altus Spine’s Valencia Pedicle System, which is cleared by the FDA for sale in the U.S. This will pave the way for OsteoCentric to expand into the spinal fusion market, which it plans to do during the second quarter of 2022.

OTW spoke with OsteoCentric Technologies Chief Marketing Officer Gavin Sontag about the decision to partner. “With our method of fixating implants to bone, we are uniquely positioned to take existing, proven implant systems and apply our Technology, UnifiMI, to them to increase performance and clinical effectiveness,” said Sontag.

“Altus Spine’s Valencia Pedicle System fits perfectly with this model and will allow Altus to continue to be the primary manufacturer for the system.”

What does this mean for spine surgeons? Kade Huntsman, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon said, “I can attest that the failure of the pedicle screw-bone interface is a common occurrence. Once launched, OsteoCentric’s new method of fixating pedicle screws will be a game-changer that addresses these failures and completely disrupts the market. I am confident it will soon become the new standard of care.”

OsteoCentric is not just focused on the spinal market. According to Sontag, “OsteoCentric will continue to invest in the proliferation of Mechanical Integration (MI) across the orthopedic, dental, and veterinary continuums.”

“In certain key surgical specialties, like orthopedic trauma, we will be building on our already existing market and product presence. In other specialties, like spine, sports medicine, dental, and vet, we will begin implanting and capturing clinical data on our first surgical cases.”
